When an abatement crew finishes, the work area looks clean and the plastic sheeting comes down. That is reassuring, but a tidy room is not the same as a room that is safe to breathe in. Asbestos fibers are far too small to see, so the only way to confirm the space is clear is to test the air and inspect the work against a checklist. Why a clean-looking room isn't proof

Even so, the point of clearance is to verify that the containment and cleaning actually worked rather than to take anyone's word for it.
